Navigating the Murky Waters of Public Affairs

Don’t be fooled by the calmer tide! JTI’s decades-long work in international markets helps clients see both the currents — and the undercurrents — that can impact their business ventures.
The Issue: A Washington, D.C., non-profit representing the interests of the U.S. subsidiaries of foreign companies was seeking ways to add greater value to its clients beyond analyzing and lobbying on public policy issues. JTI helped shape the structure and agenda for peer-to-peer best practice conferences for the North American CEOs and General Counsel from U.S. subsidiaries of foreign companies.
The Action: JTI’s deep understanding of the complexities of conducting business in the U.S. as a foreign-based firm enabled us to help shape a topical agenda that was relevant and compelling enough to attract invitees to attend. We also crafted marketing communications resulting in corporate sponsorship for the conferences.
The Consequences: The best measure of success when busy executives sacrifice their valuable time to attend an event is whether they come back again. These peer-to-peer conferences continue today, years after the initial launch.

“JTI invested time to meet our key management and understand our business. Key factors for the success with JTI were: good relationships with decision makers on Capitol Hill, in the Administration and elsewhere . . . Reliability and trustworthiness. JTI managed an entire Public Affairs budget for us with regular reporting and an attractive value proposition for Infineon.”
