The Issue: JTI was asked to prepare a restructuring plan for the Central European subsidiary of a publicly traded U.S. company. Following presentation of the plan, JTI Principal Jeff Thinnes was asked to serve as the interim Managing Director for Central Europe and execute the plan. JTI sought help to understand the different business and legal cultures of Europe.
The Action: JTI reached out to its network of business leaders in Europe and created an Advisory Board that met three times per year. The Advisory Board advised JTI and the senior management team on cost and sales management as well as business development.
The Result: With stricter cost management and a more focused sales strategy, the Central European subsidiary was profitable for the first time since it had opened its Central European office doors 8 years earlier.
